Frequently Asked Questions

Block

1. How long does it take for you to place a nanny with a family?
It all depends on the family's needs and preferences. We like to have as much time as possible for the process, so we advise that you contact us in advance, if at all possible. We can place a nanny within two weeks or less in some instances. Other times, it takes longer. Please remember that we want to help you find someone that is a match for your family, not just place a nanny with you.
2. Do you have a replacement policy?
Yes, we will replace any nanny, free of charge, within the first 90 days of hire if necessary. However, we strive to place you with a nanny who will be a great match so that this will not arise. After the first ninety days to one year, fifty percent of the current fee is applicable to replace the nanny. After one year, ninety five percent of the current fee is applicable.
3. What kind of background checks do you do?
The background check consists of a social security trace, a driving record check and a criminal history check. Please note that in addition to statewide checks, we also order county level criminal checks which are physically researched by an actual person. This type of search will yield information that has not been reported to the statewide repository.
4. Do you offer any assistance or advice regarding household employer taxes?
We do not offer any advice regarding this issue. However, we do refer our clients to Breedlove and Associates for the information that they seek regarding these issues.
5. Do you offer assistance in setting up a work agreement between the nanny and the family?
Yes, we provide each family with a work agreement template that outlines the specific details pertaining to the position, including work hours, rate of pay, job duties, benefits, etc. You are free to alter it to your specifications. However, we do require that all families whom we place a nanny with provide us with a copy of a completed and signed work agreement, by both nanny and family, as a condition of our replacement policy.
6. Will we work with the same representative when dealing with The Nanny Advantage?
Yes. You will work with the same person through the entire process. Emails and phone calls are always welcome. You can rest assured that we will be in constant communication with you until your position is filled. This is a personalized service, and we strive to meet your needs.
7. Where do you find your nannies?
We recruit nannies in many different ways. Our favorite way is through word of mouth from other nannies and families. We also utilize recruiting databases and other forms of online and print advertising to recruit the nannies. Yet, no matter what the recruiting resource, we always carefully pre-screen the nannies before we send them to you saving you the time and effort of having to sort through candidates through your own candidate search to find those that are qualified.
8. What do you require of your nannies?
We require that they be at least 20 years of age. They must have a minimum of one collective year of paid child care experience with the age group of children they wish to work with. They also must have at least two successful child care or nanny references that can be verified. They must have their own dependable transportation with insurance and a valid driver's license. A clear driving record and clear criminal history are also required. In addition CPR and First Aid Certification are required of all nannies. If they are not currently certified, they must be willing to obtain certification within the first 30 days of hire, or before.
9.What type of hourly pay do nannies typically receive?
It depends on several factors including the hours required, number and ages of children, and additional job duties (other than child care) that you require. Here is an idea of what you should pay a nanny in your employ:

Keep in mind that infants or children with special needs often require a higher or more specialized level of care, and the nanny should be paid accordingly.

Full Time

1 child      no additional duties or light cleaning duties (bottle washing, picking up)        $11-13 per hour
1 child      duties such as light housekeeping, children's laundry, pet care, meal prep     $12-14 per hour

2 children  no additional or light duties                                                                      $12-14 per hour
2 children  duties such as light housekeeping, children's laundry, pet care, meal prep     $13-15 per hour

3 children  no additional or light duties                                                                       $13-15 per hour
3 children  duties such as light housekeeping, children's laundry, pet care, meal prep      $14-16 per hour

Part-Time Nannies with less than 20 hours per week should be paid at the higher rate for each of the above categories. This is to make the job more attractive and retain the nanny. Part-time hours often make it impossible for nannies to take another job due to conflicts. Therefore, you will want to compensate your part-time nanny well in order to retain her.
